As Summer comes to its peak and we’ve enjoyed a few days off at home with loved ones, it is about time to hit the road to explore or go overseas to discover new places and cultures. Personally, I love the camping culture in Australia, discovering the country, sitting by the campfire in the evening and endless beach days, because in my opinion, there is nowhere else I’d rather be.

Recently I’ve discovered how much fun it can be to bring some essential oils along for your camping trip and managed to implement a few essential oil DIYs into my must-haves for weekends off the grid. This not only adds more fun into the rustic experience of camping but also allows to go low-tox in small steps and give back to mother earth as you go.

I love camping, but it comes with the disadvantage of sometimes everything in the car and tent having the smell of the latest dinner or smoke from the campfire. Therefore, I make a pillow mist which has its fixed place in the camping equipment and comes with me, wherever I sleep.

You can use any essential oils of your choice for this, I recommend the Sun-Kissed Blend which comes with uplifting and cleansing properties. This way I fall asleep thinking of surfboards, waves and my toes in the sand, just what I need for a good night’s rest.

1. DIY Pillow Mist

Ingredients:

Method + Use:

Add your essential oils and Witch Hazel to the bottle and fill with distilled water. Shake well before each use and spray a few pumps onto your pillow at night-time.

Pro tip: also makes a refreshing spray before or after using the public toilet on your campground

Nature is incredibly beautiful and unique off the grid. To contribute your part for it to stay that way, I’d like to share a dishwashing liquid recipe for you that you can use to clean up your camping dishes. It’s not meant to be used for freshwater streams but will be less harming in comparison to harsh chemical or fragranced dishwashing liquid.

2. DIY Dishwashing Liquid

Ingredients:

Method + Use:

Mix both ingredients together in a small, reusable bottle. When dishwashing, add a few drops directly onto your sponge or kitchen scrubber.

We all know the days where we stay in the water for a bit too long and only realise once it is too late, and regrettably our nose and shoulders are already turning red. This spray helps all the mermaids to cool down their skin after a playful session in the ocean and is best to be kept in the car, so you have it with you throughout the hot months.

3. DIY Mermaid Spray

Ingredients:

Method + Use:

Mix all ingredients together into the glass spray bottle and shake until everything is well combined. Spray on the skin after being outside and exposed to the sun for a long period of time. As the mixture sits, the oils will separate. Be sure to give it a good shake before each use.

4. Cordless Travel Diffuser

And finally, I love to take my Cordless Travel Diffuser camping with me! This is great to have handy to use in the car, tent or while journaling in the outdoors. I can take my favourite essential oil blends with me to help create my aromatherapy sanctuary anywhere I go!

Enjoy your summer days with friends and family, make sure to take it in to the fullest, stay safe and have lots of fun!
