During Autumn some plants drop their leaves in order to conserve energy and the last fruits of the season produce seeds to ensure new life in Spring. We, too, take time to prepare for dormant periods by dreaming about and nurturing the seeds of plans for the future. As the days get cooler and shorter, we welcome Autumn with grace as it gives us time to ease out of the warm weather and festive season, and into a gentler time of year. Autumn is a time for reflection on the year that has passed and examining elements in our life that may be lovingly let go.

Journal Questions to Contemplate in Autumn

  • Is it time to shed something in my life such as beliefs, thoughts, grievances, an unhealthy relationship, job or self-limiting mindset?
  • What is my deepest and most treasured dream for the future? This question could be answered with loved ones too. How can we support each other to achieve our dreams?
  • Are there areas in my life that need repairing? This could include self-care, making an appointment to a health care provider, re-prioritising time to repair a relationship or simply an area of the house that needs fixing.
  • What new essential oils do you want to work with this season? What will you gain from working with them?
  • Are there areas in your heart, mind, or body where you need healing? What oils can you use to assist this healing? Is there someone in your life that you trust to assist you with this healing?

How to incorporate essential oils while journaling

For those who enjoy journaling and like to enhance their atmosphere to really zone in and manifest during this time, a diffuser blend is the easiest way to control your experience. Add up to 8 drops of essential oil in your diffuser, this could be a ready made blend such as Meditation Blend, Free Spirit Blend, Australian Shores Blend or Women's Blend, depending on your mood. Or you can give this blend a try;

4 drops Frankincense

1 drop Sandalwood

2 drops Lavender

Another way to enjoy essential oils while journaling is by making your own perfume rollerball. Try this recipe;

10ml rollerball

Carrier oil of choice

3 drops Basil

2 drop Lemon

3 drops Geranium

Add your essential oils to the rollerball, fill with carrier oil of choice and shake well. Apply to your wrist or across your sternum before beginning your journal time. Essential oils can help us emotionally and physically. Let’s look at how the properties of essential oils support us on many levels during contemplation.

An extremely relacing essential oil that may be useful for insomnia and support us during times of lowered immunity due to overactivity. Use Vetiver to reset and feel revived.

Lemon Essential Oil

Emotionally Physically

Brimming with vitality, Lemon is a lovely stimulating oil that can help clear emotional overload and revive fatigued spirits.

Lemon essential oil can help boost energy and is a great addition for journaling to promote clarity.

Geranium Essential Oil

Emotionally Physically

Geranium helps us return to a place of calm while retaining alertness. Wonderful for use at the beginning of a hectic day or as an emotional restorative in the afternoon.

Due to its sedative effect, Geranium is great to be used during times of stress and anxiety.

Melissa Essential Oil
