Origin: Indonesia

Botanical name: Vetiveria zizanoides (Chrysopogon zizanioides) roots (Vetiver) oil

Extraction method:  Steam distillation

Vetiver helps us to connect back to the earth and receive emotional healing and guidance. An extremely relaxing oil that can be useful to help with insomnia and support us during times of lowered immunity due to overactivity.

Vetiver essential oil is included as a fixative base for many blends (in small proportions) as it has a unique and powerful aroma. It blends well with Bergamot, Clary Sage, Lavender, Lemon, Marjoram, Patchouli & Black Pepper.

Where is Vetiver Essential Oil from?

There are many growing regions of Vetiver throughout Indonesia and the Caribbean. Vetiver is usually ready for its first harvest 11 - 12 months after planting and harvesting is done in the dry season as the yield of oil is higher and quality of the oil is better compared to the wet season.

How is Vetiver Essential Oil made?

The extraction of Vetiver essential oil is done by steam. Steam distillation separates and purifies the natural aromatic compounds. While steam distillation is time consuming, the maximum oil is obtained with minimal loss.

Farmers prefer distilling Vetiver in the dry season as the yield of oil is higher and quality is better compared to the rainy season.

What are the benefits of Vetiver Essential Oil?

As mentioned, Vetiver is an extremely relaxing oil and it helps us to re-centre ourselves. It is also useful for those who tend to be anxious or have lost touch with their emotional selves. A tonic for the immune and circulatory system, Vetiver helps to decongest and strengthen the digestive system. Vetiver can be used to help skin infections such as acne and can be added to a treatment regime for tired and dull skin.

The perfect dark note for your blends!

"When I first opened the bottle and sniffed this one, I wasn't sure I liked it. It was unlike any of the other scents--funky, loamy. But when I added it to some of the more floral or citrus scents, I discovered the earthiness of it. Like autumn leaves underfoot in a forest. A must have for all collections."
