We are now well aware of the impact of single use plastics, product packaging and fast consumption on both our health and the environment. Besides takeaway coffee cups, plastic water bottles and plastic straws, there is a multitude of household products used daily that are packaged in plastic.

It can seem overwhelming at first, but by making simple changes and developing new habits, we can slowly start reducing the amount of plastics used in our lives. One the best way to do this is by creating your own products!

There is something beautiful about being able to make your own household and cosmetic products knowing it has a positive impact for your health and the environment.

To help you get started, we selected some of our favourites DIY recipes you can easily make at home using essential oils.

DIY Deoderant


An all natural, aluminium free and environmentally friendly alternative to mainstream deodorants. Essential oils are renowned for their antibacterial, odour reducing and skin hydrating properties, making them a great addition to any natural homemade deodorant. DIY Cleaning Products


Due to their antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiviral properties, essential oils make the perfect natural ingredient for household products. Making your own natural, toxic-free cleaning products is simple, cost-effective and better for the environment. DIY Body Products


The best thing about making your own body scrub (except being toxic free and all natural) is that you get to choose your favourite consistency and fragrance. Here is our favourite recipe for a beautiful detoxifying and refreshing all natural body scrub.

DIY Cellulite Lotion


Essential oils can help prevent cellulite by removing toxins that accumulate in the fat calls. The best way to use essential oils to help prevent cellulite is to dilute a few drops in your favourite carrier oil and massage into the skin using your hand or a brush. You can also add a few drops to a homemade body scrub and massage into the skin in circular motion. We recommend using Geranium, Lemongrass, Grapefruit, Fennel & Juniper. DIY Stain Remover


Simple & easy tricks you can start to use instead of chemical stain removing products. If your whites are needed a freshen up try mixing water, lemon juice and Lemon essential oil and soaking the garments overnight. For tough oil based stains, apply Eucalyptus essential oil directly to the stain and allow to evaporate before washing as normal.

DIY Dry Shampoo


Dry shampoo is a great toxic free and low waste alternative to regular shampoo. Take it with you while traveling, camping or simply use at home when you are in a hurry! Mix corn flour with 1 tsp of baking soda and 12 drops of essential oils. We recommend using Cedarwood & Clary Sage.

DIY Aftershave Balm


A great way to treat your man is to make him a natural aftershave balm. It only requires a few ingredients and will leave the skin feeling smooth, hydrated and fresh. Essential oils have beautiful antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties that will help the skin repair. Simply combine 1/3 cup of coconut oil, 1/3 cup shea butter and ¼ cup with 10 drops of your favourite essential oils. We recommend Lavender, Rosemary, Peppermint or Cedarwood.
